The challenge
Editorial website and virtual try-on for an independent eyewear store.
The store’s frames are designed in-house and made in small runs. Their site was a product catalogue that undersold the craft, and customers kept turning up without appointments for eye tests the optometrists couldn’t fit in.
They wanted try-on, but not a gimmick: the point was to get the right frames on the table before the customer walked in.
What we did
Our approach
- Editorial, not catalogueBig photography, short stories about each frame’s name and material, and prices shown plainly.
- Try-on that fitsFace tracking in the browser estimates face width and suggests a size before showing the frame.
- From try-on to appointmentSaved frames are attached to the eye-test booking so they’re waiting on the table.
- Bookings the team controlsOptometrists set their own availability; walk-ins see the next free slot on a tablet at the door.
In hindsight
What we’d do differently
Try-on works well on newer phones and poorly on older Android devices in low light. About one in ten sessions fall back to a static size guide, which is fine, but we oversold the feature in the first launch email.
